Review

Saylor and Deacon have a connection from the start but poor Saylor just cant get her trust issues from her past to quit. She tries everything to not allow Deacon in. She is upset that there is a Julie around but then is using that quickly as a reason to not be with him. These are 19 year olds. The author writes them as 19 year olds. They are 19 year olds that have responsibilities but miscommunicate, keep things from each other, try to hurt each other, and do not really know how to work it out. I really liked that they didn't get too deep where you would forget you are reading about college kids.

Deacon, bless him, has a huge weight on his shoulders but he goes with it. He mans up and takes it on. Although he doesn't realize that taking this responsibility that he has left his best friends in the dark of how hard his life is. Saylor helps him deal with this. She helps him see that he needs to give up a little control and allow his friends to help. She becomes a foundation in his life until she isn't.

Saylor is written as a troubled confused girl and that is exactly what you get. She finally allows the walls down and her mother is able to help. These kids go to their parents. I loved that.

Also, favorite quote from the book is from Saylor to Mason, "I know somebody ruined a perfectly good asshole by putting teeth in your mouth." BOOM!!! I loved that banter with these two. I know the book was about Saylor and Deacon but I kept waiting to see what Mason would do next. He definitely helped make the group and was there for a lot of support along with just being a funny guy.

I am looking forward to reading more about this group of young misfits.
