Release with Review:: When We Were Young (Hopelessly Devoted Book 1) by Gen Ryan

I have always admired military wives. They have a hard life, they have to be the mom, dad and everything in between while their husbands are gone. I freak out sometimes when my firefighter husband works more than his normal shift, these women put up with more than I ever will. Some get it worse than others, some have husbands that see things that others don't. Some have no support system, some have great support systems.

We meet Rainey, who is trying to finish school and begin college. Who hasn't had a support system so she is figuring life out on her own. She meets Parker at her job, he happens to come in while she is duty. It all plays out from there, high school sweethearts that continue through their twenties.

I never know what life has in store for you. Parker signs up for another deployment, at 26 years old Rainey wants a family, she wants to make dinner together, and she wants life to begin. She has put everything on hold to allow him to do what he loves. At least she thinks he loves it.

My heart went out to Rainey when life dumps more on her than I think she can handle. Life also gives her an olive branch when a paramedic comes in and decides Rainey needs a friend. Levi calling her 'raindrop' made my heart melt. It's exactly what Rainey needs. A friend that will lift her up when she is at her lowest. Her heart is solid gold, she is a better woman than most. There is no way I could be as nice to a man that decides to leave me as she was.

I cannot wait until January, I cannot wait to see what happens with Rainey's heart. I cannot wait to see Parker changes. I cannot wait to see if Levi pulls out the big guns to keep her. I just want Rainey to be happy and I am hoping the next book will make that happen.

When she fell in love with her high school sweetheart, Rainey Matthews thought it’d be forever. But life has a habit of sneaking up and throwing a sucker punch when you least expect it.

Parker’s military career has become his top priority, leaving Rainey behind while he pursues his dreams. A combination of Parker’s PTSD and his actions threaten to tear Rainey’s heart right open, and she can no longer keep it together.

Then an unexpected lifeline appears and shows Rainey what it’s like to be cared for and loved. She finds herself happy for the first time in a while, but those sneaky sucker punches aren’t done, and keeping happiness will be an uphill battle.

Disclosure: Cliff-hanger ending. Part 2 Releases January 13th 2018
