Read:: Worth the Fall by Claudia Conner

Where have I been and why has it taken me so long to meet the McKinney brothers? I absolutely love a book with small children. I think its the mom in me. I love watching a man grow close with children he could have never imagined himself being a father too. This book was all that and more.

We meet Matt, he was dragged to the beach by his cousin. He needs a break from life after a mission goes wrong and he lost a very close friend. Navy Seals go on danger missions and Matt of all knows that but losing someone so close messes with his head. He is simply on the beach when he is hit by a Nerf ball. The ball brings him the joy he never knew he could have.

Abby is dealing with the death of her husband, raising 4 young children on her own, and trying to give them the best childhood she can. She didn't have a great childhood and we learn that her marriage was horrible also. She has always been left, second best, and really doesn't know how to deal with the attention from Matt.

This story, these kids, this relationship was all kinds of feel good and very emotional. Matt has to learn how to not be the soldier any longer. He has always been on his own, however now he is pulled to this ready made family. He falls in love with each of the kids along with their mother. The kids cracked me up, Gracie is so sweet and honest with him and Jack has an instant connection with Matt. Anne takes the longest but I think its because she remembers life with her dad and he was always leaving so she doesn't have the faith needed to believe Matt is in it for the long haul. When Anne finally gives her heart to Matt, I cried.

Matt and Abby have a long road but he fights, boy does he fight. He wants this family, there is no your kids, step kids, or they belong to Abby, from the beginning Matt thinks and talks as if he is the father. He claims them as his from the first day on that beach.

NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • Prepare to be swept away by a talented debut author with a passionate, powerful story to tell.

They meet on a beach. . . . Abby Davis isn’t wearing a skimpy bikini or sipping umbrella drinks, not when she’s busy chasing around four little ones. And Matt McKinney isn’t looking for fun—he’s a Navy SEAL, a grown man with a long list of missions . . . and fallen brothers.

They only have a week. . . . Abby has brought her children to this beach to start over, to give them the enjoyable memories they deserve. Matt’s been sidelined by a combat injury, and haunted by the best friend he lost and the promise he made: to remain a SEAL—focused and dedicated. This leaves no time for what he’s always wanted: a family.

But a week is all it takes. . . . Matt opens her heart while Abby soothes his soul. And though they plan to say good-bye when the week is over, something magical happens on that beach, something neither can forget. Something utterly, completely worth falling for.
