That moment your life changes.
That moment that changes your life.
That moment you love someone more than you love yourself.
That was the moment we gave our son up for adoption and the moment I was left bare. A wide-open space that would forever be empty.
There are moments that define you as a person, moments that prove just how strong you are, moments you push yourself to keep going forward when all you really want to do is give up. It was in one of those moments when I reached out and found him waiting for me.

When Shelby Calder left home fifteen years ago, she never planned on returning to the Alaskan town she left behind. But after the death of her grandfather and a bitter divorce, she hopes going home will be a fresh start for her and her ten-year-old son.

Zach Watters has made a lot of mistakes in his life. But when he sees Shelby Calder, looking more beautiful than ever, standing outside her childhood home, he promises himself that letting her go won't be a mistake he ever makes again.

Some things never change and love is one of them.

Review

Zach and Shelby make my heart full. These two got a crappy start to real life. Teenage pregnancy and a past that lets you know that if you cant take care of a child, you should find someone who can. They feel they made the best decision for their child, but at the same time grief and resentment set it. Shelby cannot take the loss of her son and looking at this man who helped make the decision to give him up. She leaves, they don't hate each other, they don't want to break up, but its just something that has to happen for their own lives.

I felt for Zach, he was young and didn't know what to do. He realizes too late, of course, that he should have fought harder, made Shelby stay. They both move on. They both find 'replacements' for that wide open space in their heart. They both make lives with people they can't see a forever with. They both make beautiful babies with others.

Shelby returns home, after the death of her grandfather. She's thrown right back to being a teenager with those feelings. She finds that her neighbor is the one that got away, the love of her life.

I love that Aurora didn't make them fight for it, she didn't make it difficult. She just tells their story. Zach sees Shelby back and it begins 'baby', his affection name for her when speaking. He must touch her when she is near. He very quickly strikes up a relationship with her son and his kids actually make a pact to get him back with Shelby. They find it, years later, they get their second chance.

Aurora as always made my heart thump. She brings you to the table sharing in their lives. She makes you feel that you are apart of this family. Aurora and these people become something special in your heart. She also leaves us wanting more, as always, since I began reading her books. As always I will be patiently waiting for the next release.
